treehouse: day 3

mikey and I took the dogs to the lumber yard this morning, picked up some plywood for the new decks.

was quite a hoof to drag a 4x8 sheet of plywood all the way up there, totally worth it.

pretty cool seeing it with the first sheet on.

added a few more joists to the skeleton. the straps help me hold 'em in place while nailing.

super solid to stand on, actually made me realize what bad shape the old decks are in.

barefoot treehouse building: day 2!

day two was all about getting the main rafters in place.

one by one they extend out from the old second floor, had to hang like a monkey to nail them down.

was pretty scary until I got them all in. it's nice to stand on them now and feel how far out it stretches.

this gives you a sense of the size of the deck. the longest beam is 12 feet long. plenty of space. maybe we hang a basketball hoop?

the deuce approves.

Rescued Furniture

There seems to be a real need right now for re-using or recycling furniture. Before Ruby left for Australia, he gave this to us for safe keeping. Mikey restored it to it's original beauty.
This is our contribution............This is my first post and I am all excited

treehouse project: day 1

I'm remodeling the treehouse and thought I'd let you guys follow the progress. day one, sweep and cut back the overgrown branches. find things that need repairing, decide on additions.

first floor, there's a soft spot that could use some reinforcement. probably won't make any other changes though.

the view from the first floor looking up at where the new deck will go. should fill most of this space.

second floor looking down the ladder. the space in the background will be the new second floor deck that connects the first and third floors.

second floor, rotten in some places. I think I'm gonna' tear it up and re-do it after I finish the addition.

looking over at the area where the new third floor deck will be. it should make the space up there three times as big.

view from up top, mikey working on a boat.

tomorrow will start framing in the second floor. so far so good!
